FINSIA helped NAB colleagues celebrate their 13,000 Career Qualified in Banking milestone this week in Sydney and Melbourne.
Staff shared their takeaways from the course over coffee, highlighting how beneficial the program was to their work.
Docklands Branch Manager Catherine Nguyen – who joined NAB CEO Ross McEwan and the entire NAB Executive Leadership Team and a third of the workforce – says learnings have been especially helpful when dealing with vulnerable customers.
“I didn’t come from a banking background and Career Qualified in Banking has allowed me to step up my knowledge base when conversing with customers and my colleagues,” she said.
“When you truly understand why something is the way it is, you can communicate it effectively.
“The content of the course has been helpful when it comes to dealing with vulnerable customers.”
Mary Jones SA FIN, FINSIA’s Senior Relationship Manager, who pictured here with Katherine Jull – Director Transaction Banking and a member of FINSIA’s Diversity Advisory Council, Paul Riordan F FIN, Chief Credit & Market Risk Officer and FINSIA Board Director – as well as Victoria Kuok, Investment Relationship Manager and Frank Separovich, Personal Banker – said: “It was great to get the feedback on how useful the course has been to so many.
“We also had quite a few people who are getting ready to go through the course coming to us for advice.”
Head of Employer Services Steve Glenny SA FIN added: “was great to be able to engage with so many of the graduates of the Professional Banking Fundamentals qualification, and hearing how they are making the most of their FINSIA membership, especially the newly available Mentoring program.”
NAB chief executive Ross McEwan said he was proud of the achievements of staff in a social media post.
“At NAB, all colleagues are required to complete the Professional Banking Fundamentals program run in partnership with FINSIA and accredited by The Chartered Banker Institute (UK),” he said on LinkedIn.
“It’s a globally recognised qualification that focuses on the fundamentals of banking and getting the basics right.
“I’ve said from day one at NAB this is critical as it develops the skills for supporting customers through both good and tough times.
“We now have more than 13,000 colleagues qualified – representing over a third of our workforce.”
FINSIA CEO and Managing Director Yasser El-Ansary F FIN said: “It is a tremendous achievement, and we should congratulate Ross and all of the NAB graduates for the hard work they have put into reaching this milestone.”
