With more New Zealanders looking to invest, the financial services regulator has come up with a myth-busting guide.
Author Mary Holm - who has demystified personal finance for decades, in six books, many columns and on the radio - teamed up with the Financial Markets Authority to devise the practical eight-point guide.
“It’s a quick guide for anyone who’s thinking about or already dabbling in investing – and wants to know more,” says the FMA, whose recent survey showed almost a quarter of Kiwis were planning to increase investments or make new ones over the next year.
Mary, who was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to financial literacy education in the 2020 Queen’s Birthday Honours, said: “Misunderstandings about investing are common and can discourage people from taking part – which is a real pity. You don’t need to have much money, spend a lot of time or take much risk to be a successful investor.”
