Financial services should look at firefighters for inspiration, ASIC chairman James Shipton suggested in his latest speech.
The head of the corporate regulator highlighted the need to emulate members of the emergency services as they have all the attributes of a trustworthy professional.
Speaking at a webinar on Regulation, Trust and Social Licence, he said the cultural concept of professionalism that ASIC advocates for is vital to restore trust in financial services.
Mr Shipton - speaking at the Australia and New Zealand School of Government and National Regulators Community of Practice - said the competence and conscientiousness displayed by New Zealand firefighters was the reason they had the highest level of trust in government departments.
