Will White has worked in financial services since moving to Australia from the UK in 2010. During this time, he has taken advantage of many of the courses and events FINSIA offers to help him develop his skills and professional development.
Will is looking forward to continuing his lifelong-learning journey as he moves into a new role. But, like many FINSIA members, his time in banking began with one of Australia’s big four banks.
“I started my career as a bank manager for Westpac, before holding several regional manager roles for both Westpac and St George across NSW and Victoria,” he explains.
Will then moved into a senior leadership role in customer care across the Westpac Group’s retail brands, leading a team of more than 150 people throughout Victoria and Tasmania.
“After many years in retail distribution, I wanted to diversify my skills. So I subsequently accepted a position as the Head of Banking Product and Operations at RACQ, Queensland’s biggest mutual organisation,” says Will.
In this role, Will led all elements of product design and distribution, as well as bank operations and speciality services. He has recently accepted a new position as the Head of Product, Digital Banking and Customer Care for MyState Bank, based in Hobart.
According to Will, being an active FINSIA member allows him to constantly develop his skills.
“Continual professional development is critically important to both my ongoing progress and for future career opportunities, as well,” he says.
Will explains being part of FINSIA allows him to spend time with, and learn from, other industry experts. It’s also an opportunity to give back to the banking and financial services sector.
“My FINSIA membership is a chance to share my knowledge and experiences, while growing my professional network,” he says.
Having access to a professional network through FINSIA also gives Will all the resources he needs to respond to the challenges of working in banking and finance.
“Regulatory requirements and an ever-changing commercial environment can make it hard to stay on top of all the changes across our industry. Being a FINSIA member helps me stay on top of what’s happening, so I can ensure my work remains relevant and I have everything I need to support my teams,” he says.
Outside work, Will loves to travel and always has a trip booked. Enjoying time with friends is also important.
“My partner is a chef and is naturally an amazing cook. So we like to have people over for dinner. We also enjoy spending time with, and walking, our dog, Budrick.”
