The New Zealand economy is at a delicate juncture. With the cash rate having been increased by 525 basis points since October 2021, house prices have fallen by a quarter in real terms and with a bout of extreme weather thrown in, it’s been a wild ride. With the RBNZ now on hold, inflation off its highs and house price back on the way up, is the worst now over, or is the pain just getting going?
