The new FINSIA strategy represents our considered view on how we will respond to the extensive feedback received over recent months from members, as well as input from our various Regional Councils, Industry Councils and Young Finance Professional Committees. The voice of our members has led to the development of four strategic pillars that make up the foundations of the new strategy. They are:
- Deliver lifelong learning – Deliver relevant and timely knowledge to all our members throughout their career.
- Grow our community – Better support and diversify our community of members in Australia and New Zealand.
- Advocate for purpose – Actively promote policy and regulation that supports a strong society underpinned by integrity and professional conduct.
- Create connection and belonging – Facilitate connections and networks to enable our members to succeed.
At its core, the new strategy shapes our Purpose as an organisation, which is to develop and support our community of finance professionals to realise their ambitions. It also guides our Vision, which is to be a leading professional body whose members make a significant contribution to a stronger society. We are confident this new strategy will create a stronger FINSIA for the future that is more relevant and more engaged with its members across every dimension of our work program. This new strategy will also guide FINSIA towards being a more financially sustainable organisation over the long-term, which is of course, important to all of us.
Work is already underway to implement changes in-line with the new strategy. Over recent months, work has commenced on the implementation of changes to support the activities that are aligned with the new strategy. FINSIA will do everything possible to accelerate the delivery of new initiatives to support our members. In addition, the FINSIA team is working closely with all Councils and Committees to define the way in which each of those member representative groups can play a role in supporting the implementation of the new strategy through localised action plans across the states and sectors.
If there is one final message from us, it’s this: we want you to come on this journey with us as we create a stronger FINSIA for the future. Our commitment to you is that we will do everything we can to better support you, our members. And our ask of you, is that you do everything you can to support us. On behalf of the FINSIA Board and the FINSIA Team, thank you for your engagement and support. We really appreciate it and we look forward to seeing you at one of our many networking events and learning opportunities this year.
Feedback from our members
As a guide to our new strategy, a few months ago we asked for your help by sharing your views about what you believe FINSIA is doing well, and what we need to improve as we move forward.
With the assistance of leading market research firm, Beaton, almost 1,000 FINSIA members across Australia and New Zealand completed a comprehensive survey. The feedback you provided was detailed, thoughtful, and constructive. Several common ‘themes’ were identified in the feedback, which are broadly summarised below:
- FINSIA must deliver a stronger member value proposition across all our member segments. In particular, we need to grow our FINSIA community by appealing to younger and early-career financial services professionals, as well as mid-career professionals looking to accelerate their journey. We also need to lift our focus on members located in New Zealand, and outside of the major capital cities on the eastern seaboard of Australia.
- FINSIA must broaden its knowledge, learning and education offerings to cover all financial services, rather than maintaining an exclusive focus on banking alone.
- We need to be more proactive and visible in being a voice for the financial services profession by deepening our engagement with government and regulators, and by promoting reforms that support a strong society underpinned by integrity and professional conduct.
- We need to facilitate connections and networks amongst our FINSIA membership family through well designed online and in-person events, as well as important career-enhancing initiatives such as mentoring programs and other tools to aid in professional development.
