FINSIA is thrilled to announce the return of NSW Industry Influencers, in collaboration with CPA Australia. 

Industry Influencers is designed to provide you with an opportunity to meet with and hear from seasoned experts who have made their mark. Get in-the-know and learn about what it takes to become an industry influencer yourself.   

This year in Sydney, we explore the intersectionality between digital transformation and diversity. Hear from a panel of three trailblazers in financial services:

Erlene Granoogst

Executive General Manager (Operational Excellence), Australian Financial Complaints Authority

Erlene Graanoogst is the Executive General Manager of Operational Excellence at the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), where she leads strategic initiatives to enhance operational performance and fairness in the financial services sector.

With extensive experience in change, transformation and business management, Erlene has worked across global financial hubs, including Amsterdam, New York, and Sydney.

During her 14 years at ING Bank, Erlene held senior roles such as Head of Commercial and Wholesale Banking Operations and Head of Business Management – Global Data Management, driving impactful initiatives across diverse markets.

In addition to her corporate career, Erlene is deeply committed to social impact and mentoring. She actively supports Roots Inspire, a program focused on empowering underrepresented professionals and serves as an Expert in Residence and Operations Advisor at Young Change Agents, where she champions financial literacy initiatives for young people.

Fluent in Dutch, English, Spanish and Portuguese, Erlene holds a Master of Laws specialising in Criminology and Juvenile Law from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Her unique blend of expertise in financial services, social advocacy and innovation positions her as a transformative leader. Erlene is dedicated to shaping an inclusive digital future by empowering organisations to harness technology and purpose effectively.

Angela Mentis SF FIN

Director, Firstcape and Reece Group

Angela has extensive business, retail and institutional banking and wealth management experience, spanning 37 years.

Angela was appointed Chief Digital, Data & Analytics Officer, NAB in October 2021 until October 2023. Prior to this Angela was Managing Director & CEO BNZ from January 2018 - September 2021.

Angela served as a director for BNZ. She is a former director on the NZ Banking Ombudsman, Loyalty NZ, JBWere, WealthHub Securities, MLC Advice Licensees, and National Australia Trustees Boards. She is also a former Business Champion for the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan, an initiative which aims to lift knowledge of the Indo Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to study and undertake internships in the region.

Angela holds a Bachelor of Business with a major in finance and economics and a sub-major in business law and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment and a Graduate in Career Qualified in Banking from the Securities Institute of Australia. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA). She is a member of Chief Executive Women and a former member of the Australian Governments Simplified Trade System Industry Advisory Council and NSW Governments Digital Skills and Workforce Compact.

Matthew D'Cruz

Strategy and Performance at Canva

Matt is currently working in the Strategy and Performance team at Canva where he is responsible for owning the day to day activities needed to ensure accurate & routine forecasting, reporting & tracking of how Canva will meet its key commercial goals.

Previously, he has worked in a number of other well-known organisations including Lendlease, American Express, Lion and Junkee Media.

Matt is passionate about the intersection of technology and business with a passion for tackling big complex problems and constantly seeking out opportunities to learn new skills.

He has been selected as Young Accountant of the Year (Under 30 Years) as part of the Australian Accounting Awards sponsored by Accountants Daily and has twice won the CPA Australia NSW Divisional President's Award for Emerging Leader.

Matt grew up in Sydney and attended UTS to undertake the Bachelor of Accounting Co-operative Scholarship Program and has also completed the CPA program

Outside of work, he enjoys volunteering for a number of organisations across a number of worth causes including CPA Australia Young and Emerging Professionals Committee, Careers in Colour, Blackbird Giants Mentoring and the Global Shapers Community.
